Christian Distinctiveness

Over the years, a very strong and positive relationship has been established between the local parish church, St. Thomas' at Hanwood and Hanwood School. We worship together, in different forms, every day and weekly assemblies are led by local clergy and a team from the church offer "Open the Book" assemblies regularly. The school come to the church for their Harvest Festival, Reception Welcome Service and Leavers' Service. Children also get the opportunity to visit the church at other times throughout the year too.

Our school values are embedded throughout life here at Hanwood...

Kindness

This year for Christmas, instead of buying gifts for staff, the children and families collected and donated goods for our local food bank. What a fantastic collection we received from our amazing families - this act of kindness, to those in need this year, will be greatly received.

Aspiration

Children in Elm class welcomed an important visitor who spoke to them about the importance of working hard and being the best people they could be.

Courage

Learning takes place in lots of ways here at Hanwood. We have recently welcomed into school Hotbuckle Productions who treated us to a magnificent production of 'Emotion on the Ocean'. which encouraged our children to think about big feelings and emotions. We thought about the courage needed and different strategies to cope with feelings induced by what life throws at them.

Respect and Kindness

Our children wanted to do something to show support and raise some money to send to families affected by the crisis in Ukraine. They suggested that we should come to school dressed in blue and yellow and hold a bake sale to raise money. What a fabulous job they did!
